The Cirque de Trumouse climb is another good one from Luz St Sauveur. The first part follows the road to Gavarnie. After Gedre, you turn off to the left and leave the world behind. The last 15k or so are more wild, with great scenery and less traffic. Cars have to pay a toll (not bicycles in 2014). As you climb higher, the road gets steeper and it is not as well maintained. The road ends at the parking lot for the Cirque. There is a restaurant a few k from the top, but it is best to take plenty of food and water. If you need some more climbing try the short but steep and narrow road up to the Barrage and Lac des Gloriettes.

Climb summary by PJAMM dear friend and ambassador Erwan Treguiar of Brittany, France.

Cirque de Troumouse is a very scenic bike climb located in the climbing area of Argeles Gazost - Luz Saint Sauveur in the western French Pyrenees south of Lourdes. There have been no tour finishes (the climb ends at a parking lot and trailhead for the Cirque de Troumouse trail).  The Haute Randonnée Pyrénéenne or HPR (trail across the Pyrenees from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean) crosses at the finish of this bike climb.

Pont Napoléon Saut à l'élastique

One of the greatest bridges we have encountered while documenting bike climbs throughout the world . . .

Pont Napoléon Saut à l'élastique bridge crossing the Gavarnie river

The Napoleon Bridge crosses the river Gavarnie.

If you ride from Argeles Gazost (as we did) or Luz Saint Sauveur, you will ride past this epic bridge.

From Luz Saint Sauveur, we follow the gorge and River Gavarnie for 10 kilometers, then split from it in Gèdre. Thereafter we cross streams Heas, Aguila, and Maillet on our way to the top.

Three other exceptional bicycle climbs that begin near that start in Luz Saint Sauveur are:

Luz Ardiden.

Col du Tourmalet.

Col de Tentes.
