CLIMB SUMMARY

Cycling Glacier de Moiry to the upper parking lot - the end of the road.

Ride 37 kilometers gaining 2,160 meters at 5% average grade.

There is a 300 meter tunnel near the lake at kilometer 26 so bring lights.

This amazing bike climb takes us up to and past the Moiry Glacier which is a 5 kilometer long glacier (as of 2005, so who knows now . . . 😢).  The climb is in the Pennine Alps in the canton of Valais, Switzerland.  It is also one of the HC climbs that make up one of the greatest climbing areas in the world - Swiss Rhone Valley.

The climb statistics showing an average grade of 4.9% are misleading because there are a couple descents (one 4 ½ kilometers) that skew the climb’s overall gradient.  For example, there is a full 10 kilometer section that averages 8% (that in spite of a couple brief descents within the segment).

Thank you to Ard Oostra (Montreux, Switzerland) for identifying this climb and providing photographs.
