CLIMB SUMMARY

Cycling Passo del Mortirolo - hairpin, Marco Pantani memorial.

Cycling Passo Mortirolo from Edolo

Ride 16.8 kilometers gaining 1126 meters at 6.7% average grade.

If you ever have the opportunity, climb all four of the routes to Passo del Mortirolo.  The most popular and famous is from San Valentino, but the climbs from Edolo, Grisio, and Tovo are spectacular in their own right.  Edolo is the easiest route to the top.

The approach to the pass has been from Mazzo di Valtellina in 10 of 14 Giro appearances (through 2022).

The 1990, 2017 and 2022 Giro used the Edolo approach to climb Mortirolo.

We are on a busy highway for the first 4.5 km until turning onto a much lesser traveled and well maintained road for the majority of the climb.  This is the “back way” to the passo - it is far to the south and isolated from the other three routes which all overlap themselves at some point.  The Edolo path to Passo Mortirolo is the only approach that does not share the road with one of the other four routes to the top.
