Kopaonik Northeast gains 1,469.5 m (4,821 ft) in total over 33.6 km (20.9 mi), a net climb of 1,278 m (4,194 ft) from 437.7 m (1,436 ft) in Brus to 1,716 m (5,630 ft) at the resort, an average grade of 3.8%. The route crests at about 1,805 m (5,922 ft) before finishing.
The steepest 10 km average 6.8%, the steepest 5 km 8.1%, the steepest 2 km 9.1%, the steepest kilometer 9.9% and the steepest 500 m 12.5%. The steepest 91 m (100 yd) reach 17.6%.
Those figures show the shape of the ride: a long, gentle approach out of the valley, then a much harder push on the upper mountain, where the climb is concentrated.
Roadway: The road is paved throughout and is the standard Brus-Brzeće-Kopaonik route that drivers use to reach the resort, generally in good condition. Kopaonik has long winters, and drivers are warned that the last 20 km (12.4 mi) beyond Brzeće can be icy, so treat this as a late-spring to early-autumn ride and expect some patching after the winter.
Traffic: Moderate. This is one of the main routes to Serbia's largest ski resort, so it is busiest on weekends and holidays in both the ski season and summer. The lower valley section near Brus carries local traffic too. An early start is the best way to avoid the busiest hours.
Parking: Brus is a small town of about 4,200 residents (2022 census), and its center near the start is the practical place to leave a car. Brzeće, on the same road and the start of the annual Tour de Kop cycling event, is an alternative if you want a shorter ride.
Gear: The upper mountain has stretches of 8-12%, so bring a compact or lower gear, and pack layers - conditions at 1,700 m are much colder than in the valley, and snow can linger into spring.
Provisions: Fill bottles in Brus before starting, since this is a long ride of more than 33 km (20.9 mi). The resort at the top has hotels and cafes, and the resort's summer program includes e-mountain-bike tours.

Brus is the gateway town to Kopaonik, and Brzeće, on the same road, hosts the start of the Tour de Kop, a recreational (not competitive) cycling event run by the Tour de Fun association. In August 2025 it took place over two days, with a 72.2 km (44.9 mi) day through Brus and Milentija and an 83 km (51.6 mi) day out to Jošanička Banja and back, and included a Brzeće-to-Kopaonik climb among its three main ascents.
The resort also has a bike park for those who want to ride downhill after the climb. For the valley, monasteries and accommodation on the Raška side, see our Kopaonik Southwest page. See other climbs nearby, or map out a custom route from here, with our Routes in the Area tool.
