This side of the Aspin seems like two separate climbs within one. The first part from Ste. Marie de Campan is easier gradient with some flatter parts and short descents. After you get past the turn off for the Hourquette d'Ancizan, the gradient goes up and the climb stays more difficult.

Cycling Col d’Aspin from Saint Marie de Campan

Ride 13.6 kilometers gaining 643 meters at 4.6% average grade.

This is the link between Luz Saint Sauveur (Col du Tourmalet) and Bagneres de-Luchon (Col de Peyresourde) which has resulted in it being included many times in the Tour de France.

Col d’Aspin has a very long history with the Tour de France, having been featured in the greatest of Grand Tours a staggering 53 times since the tour began again after WWII - included in 74% of the Tour’s from 1947-2019 (71 in total).  Col d’Aspin is the link between the two famous Pyrenees bike climbs - Col du Tourmalet and Col de Peyresourde.
