The climb isn't quite marked correctly on Pjamm in my opinion. Starting at Curva 0 (hairpin 0) just above Coral Quemado to Valle Nevado yields 1748 m elevation gain @ avg 5.7% but starting a the YPF gas station on the East side of Santiago gives another ~500m of elevation though at a gentle 2-5% with kickers.
Anyways, the climb: very difficult. Things aren't too bad on the 41 hairpins to Farellones, there are some steep portions (like above Yerba Loca) but the climb is quite manageable. There is a kiosk offering snacks and drinks just above curve 23, about halfway to Farellones.
Above Farellones the altitude starts to hit (2000+m) and there is a descent before starting the final 650m to Valle Nevado which will kill any rhythm in your legs. The final climb is totally exposed and high altitude so even in the summer it can be cold and usually windy. The road conditions start to deteriorate and there can be rockfall.
Great scenery, eagles, condors, foxes, Andean cats.
