Great climb, just did it on March 21,2021 a little snowy still but made it. There are three look outs on the way to the top that spot light lake George, it is majestic. The climb is fairly easy getting to this point, but once you pass the third look area you hit a 7 degree plus for the rest of the climb. Once you hit the large parking lot keep pushing on the top is just a loop that heads straight back down. Worth the trip it's off season now the road is wide open!!!!!

CLIMB SUMMARY

Cycling Prospect Mountain Highway, New York

Ride 5.7 miles gaining 1,610’  at 5.3% average grade.

“Prospect Highway is a steady grade ascent away from scenic Lake George to altitude.  From the road junction begin the climb over solid grade.  Soon it eases as you cross over Interstate 87.  At mile 0.8 you pass the road’s toll house ($2 for bikes; the road closes at 5PM).  From here the route stair steps up the hill; shallow at first and then you hit the first ramp of solid grade as the trees close in which part in places for nice views.  At mile 5.3 you reach a large parking area on the right (all vehicles except motorcycles and shuttle buses must stop here).  The final stretch is over moderate grade and takes you up to the dead end top…” (This quote is provided with the approval of John Summerson from his book, The Complete Guide to Climbing (by Bike) in the Northeast, pg. 118.)
