CLIMB SUMMARY

Cycling Smugglers Notch South

Ride 4.5 miles gaining 1,232’ at 5% average grade.

Climb summary by PJAMM ambassador Bruce Hamilton, Midway, Utah.

This ride starts at almost exactly the same location as the Mt Mansfield ride. Could be combined to do both in the same day but note that Mt Mansfield is open to bikes only one day per year. The climb passes the Stowe Mountain ski area and proceeds uphill at an easy grade through dense forest. The road narrows and loses the center stripe toward the top. Near the top the route inds through some tight rock formations (the Notch?) just as you reach the summit. Most of the climb is gradual but the last ½ mile or so is very steep with tight curves. We saw 20% on our Garmin devices as we approached the summit.
