3 Mile Hill was my approach route (50+ ascents/no descents)to my full riding route. I lived on main st. Franconia. The climb is paved, w/out shoulders, but wide enough to safely cycle. The climb is steady upward increasing in pitch the closer you get to the ‘top of the notch’. After climbing most of the way, you suddenly are facing the steepest part of the climb. When you reach the top there is a nice ‘small’ state park here. Echo lake, beach, parking, bike route, etc. The views around are spectacular! At this point the cycling in the White Mts. starts here with easy access to the paved bike-path through Franconia Notch state park and on to more day rides with challenging climbs in the area.
