“The west side of Route 116 is a solid hill away from Adams, MA. Never steep, it does carry a fairly stout overall grade and some traffic but it does have a small shoulder for riding. The initial slope is quite variable and then you encounter 1.4 miles of more solid and steady grade. After that segment the pedaling gets easier again and you will find a descent. Climbing soon resumes over shallow grade up to the listed climb top (road descends beyond).” (This quote is provided with the approval of John Summerson from his book, The Complete Guide to Climbing (by Bike) in the Northeast, pg. 78.)
