Cycling West Hawley Road, Massachusetts
Photo: Wikipedia
“West Hawley Road is a shallow overall ascent through pleasant surroundings. Over a shallow start, the route then stair steps up the hill through woods with a few residences here and there. After about 3 miles you find the most challenging sustained climbing on the hill. The hill eases at a small pond on the right as you enter Plainfield. From here the effort is shallow to moderate up to the top. At Route 16, turn either right or left for 0.1 miles to finish.” (This quote is provided with the approval of John Summerson from his book, The Complete Guide to Climbing (by Bike) in the Northeast, pg. 79.)
