Climb Summary

“The east side of Route 66 west of Northampton, MA is a fairly popular hill over mostly shallow and moderate grade.  Heading essentially directly west, you begin with a shallow start through pleasant surroundings and with intermittent traffic which tends to thin the further you ride.  The route then stair steps up the hill through some woods and with a few residences here and there.  Just over 3 miles into the ascent you find the most challenging sustained climbing on the hill.  It is fairly short and the grade then eases just before the unmarked summit which is short of the top of its west side…” (This quote is provided with the approval of John Summerson from his book, The Complete Guide to Climbing (by Bike) in the Northeast, pg. 83.)
