Very nice climb with scenery. Grade is solid and steady most of the way up. Another nice climb (Doe Creek Rd) reaches this same summit and there is other good riding nearby. VA has some of the best marked small roads around.

Finish at the intersection of Doe Creek and Mountain Lake Roads

“Used in the now defunct Tour DuPont (Lance Armstrong won a stage on its slopes) Mountain Lake is a difficult climb along a very scenic route.  There is a lodge and cabins at the top.”  (This quote is provided with the approval of John Summerson from his book, The Complete Guide to Climbing (By Bike) in the Southeast, pg. 126, pg. 122)

Mountain Lake Lodge is at climb finish

Mountain Lodge was “Kellerman’s Resort” in 1987’s Dirty Dancing.
