Might be that I went on a busy day (though I did this on a weekday in the summer) but the traffic was rough on this one with lots of trucks on a two lane road with little shoulder. I was not a fan, though the views at the top and access to some hikes is cool.
As an alternative, if you are coming from Fairplay you can pull off onto a forrest road (labeled 4) past a bunch of mountain homes and ride packed gravel/ sand to avoid the worst of the traffic. This route was actually pretty nice and has a few steeps.
