Climb summary by Julia Woods, CO
This climb starts in the small town of Stonewall and only gets more beautiful as you gain elevation. Stunning geological dikes, mountain lakes, and beautiful wildflowers in the summer will accompany you along your ride. While it's an easy grade for the vast majority of this climb, be prepared for the last push that locals affectionately refer to as the "Soul Crusher".
After a couple of fun rolling hills, it abruptly turns into a gut punch of a climb for about two miles. There were moments my Strava showed a 12-13% grade for about 0.5 miles. Stick with it and enjoy the rollercoaster of a downhill coming back!
I recommend starting this ride in La Veta and biking up and over Cucharas Pass North to Monument Lake and back to La Veta for a memorable half century.
