A truly lovely peaceful climb through a forest. Not too hard at all. No development other than a trailhead parking lot with pit toilets about halfway. This is one of the most beautiful and peaceful roads in NJ. Highly recommend!

CLIMB SUMMARY

Cycling Tilman Road

Ride 1.2 miles gaining 420’ at 6.9% average grade.

Climb summary by PJAMM ambassador Dan Razum.

This is nice moderate climb through the woods of Stokes State Forest.  It is a fairly remote climb, at least for New Jersey.  The wilderness and nature makes for a relaxing ride.  Although the climb is short, you can continue on rolling terrain for several miles to enjoy the State Forest.  There are also several miles of pleasant riding on the roads at the base of the climb.

The road is narrow without any markings but traffic is very light so it's not a concern.  The surface is basically in good condition throughout, with one small rough section near the junction of Tilman Rd and Dimon Rd.  You may not even realize when you reach this junction, as the pavement just continues to the left with no indication of a real junction.  At this point Tilman Rd splits off into what is essentially a hiking trail.

Junction of Tilman and Dimon Road at mile 1 of climb.

We continue riding along Dimon Rd for a short distance before reaching the top.  The top is unmarked, it is just a flattening out of the road where we transition from continuous climbing to rolling terrain.
