The Flüelapass from Susch averages 7.3% over 13.1 km (8.1 mi) and is remarkably even. The steepest 10 km average 7.7%, the steepest 5 km 8.7%, and the steepest kilometer 10.4%; the single steepest 100 yards (91 m) reaches 12.6%.
The steepest pitches come in the switchbacks just above Susch, after which the road settles into a steady grade up the Susasca valley.
Roadway: The road is paved the entire way and wide, in excellent condition, with no shade above the treeline. The pass closes for winter, typically from early January to mid or late April; in 2026 the closure was expected to run from January 6 to April 16.
Traffic: This is a public through route between Davos and the Engadin, so in summer you share it with cars, buses and motorcycles. A historic six-horse post coach also makes the trip from Davos-Platz to the Flüela Hospiz and back every Tuesday in summer.
Parking: Susch has its own Rhaetian Railway station, so arriving by train is the easiest way to start. Muzeum Susch, 350 m from the station, has free parking for its visitors.
Gear: The grades are steady rather than brutal, so standard compact gearing is enough. The summit is at 2,383 m, so pack a windproof and a warm layer even in summer, and more so in spring, when winter can linger at the top.
Provisions: Fill bottles in Susch. The Flüela Hospiz at the summit is the place to refuel: it opened for the 2026 season on May 22 and serves daily from 7:00 until about 21:00, with house-made cured meats from the family's own production.

Susch is home to Muzeum Susch, a contemporary art museum in a restored monastery complex that dates back to 1157 and that opened in January 2019 - a rewarding stop before or after the ride (check muzeumsusch.ch for current hours).
In spring, the pass sometimes opens to cyclists before motor traffic: on April 21, 2026, the road between Davos and Susch was reserved for non-motorized traffic for a 'Frühlings-FreiPass' day, with warm clothing advised because winter can linger at the top. The Rhaetian Railway or post bus can bring you back to Susch or on to Davos if you run out of energy.
