CLIMB SUMMARY

Cycling Dans Rock

Ride 3 miles gaining 1,129’ at 7% average grade.

Climb start.

Climb summary by PJAMM ambassador Dan Razum.

The climb starts in the small town of Midland.  There is no parking right at the base of the climb, but there is parking a short distance away in the heart of Midland, on Rte 36, and it is a nice ride through a residential area to reach the base of the climb.  The residential area continues along the beginning of the climb but we soon reach the woods, with only a handful of houses the rest of the way.

This is a fairly stout climb with several sections of double digit gradients mixed in.  Near the top it flattens out but you will have to work for the majority of the climb.  The road is narrow but there isn't too much traffic since it is a dead end at the top.  The road surface is in decent condition.

There is some scenery along the way but the main views are at the top.  Technically, at the end of the climb there aren't any views but there is a stairway up to an overlook.  It is well worth climbing the stairs for the sweeping views of the valley to the east and the mountains beyond. The rocks and viewing platform at the top are covered in graffiti which is an interesting contrast to the panoramic views.
