"Dead Indian Memorial Road is a moderate (for a cat 1) climb into the southern portion of the Cascade Mountains east of Ashland, OR. Over solid grade in spots, there is a small descent near the start and a cattle guard about 4.5 miles in along with some views over its middle section. Near the top you will encounter a section of more stout grade. Its length will work you and the climb ends at an unmarked but obvious summit (Sno Park on right). Dead Indian Memorial Road is a fairly fast and fun descent as well." (This quote is presented with the approval of John Summerson, from his book, The Complete Guide to Climbing (by Bike), 2nd Edition, pg. 209.)

Having done Mount Ashland the day before, I found this climb to be more difficult. Ashland has nothing over 9%. This has a few miles of 9-13%. Wind on the downhill portion demands your attention. Instead of an out and back from Ashland, turn right (south) at the summit for a delightful spin on a narrow paved forest service road. Great views of Mount McLaughlin.
