The route from Apache Junction to Roosevelt Dam is 40.7 miles, with 20 miles of gravel beginning at about the 20 mile mark.
The gravel is manageable on a
We rode this on a Specialized Roubaix with 28mm tires which were quite adequate and not a problem on the hard packed gravel. This is a very pleasant, private and scenic route that is quite the adventure. While the 20 miles of pavement exposes us to very mild traffic, the 20 miles on the gravel has even less traffic (perhaps a motor vehicle every 15 minutes or so). This is a remote ride that should be done with support, or at least with a group. Regardless, this is a very fun and epic ride - a must for riders in or visiting the Scottsdale/Phoenix area.
