The climb gains 1099 m (3605 ft) over 21.0 km (13.1 mi) at an average of 4.9%, with 81 m (265 ft) of descent along the way. That average is pulled down by a flat kilometer and a short dip near the top - most of the climbing is at 5-8%.
The first kilometer out of Sinagra is steep at 7.8%, followed by 6.6% and 4.4%, then an almost flat kilometer 4. From kilometer 5 to Ucria at kilometer 8 the road climbs hard again, with kilometer 6 at 8.0% and kilometer 8 at 7.7%.
Beyond Ucria the gradient is steady, mostly between 5% and 6% for the next nine kilometers, with only kilometer 14 easing to 3.4%. Kilometer 18 dips slightly downhill, and the final 3 km (1.9 mi) into Floresta are gentle at 2-3.5%.
The steepest 1 km (0.6 mi) averages 8.8%, the steepest 2 km (1.2 mi) 8.0%, and the steepest 5 km (3.1 mi) 6.9%. The steepest mile averages 8.1%.
Roadway: The road is paved the entire way: local roads from Sinagra up to Ucria, then the SS116 state road from Ucria to Floresta. The hillsides around Sinagra are prone to landslides after heavy rain - storms in spring 2025 damaged several local roads around the town - so expect patched sections and the occasional temporary lane closure. If you plan to continue north from Ucria toward Naso and Capo d'Orlando, note that the SS116 on that side was closed by a landslide in April 2025, with repair works scheduled from late 2025; check ANAS road information before you go.
Traffic: This is a rural climb linking small mountain towns rather than resorts, and most traffic is local. The SS116 is the main road between Floresta and the coast, so expect a steady trickle of cars.
Parking: Sinagra is a small town of about 2700 people in the valley below the Nebrodi, and the climb starts from the town itself - park considerately on the streets near the center and start from there.
Provisions: Fill up in Sinagra before you start. Ucria, about 8 km (5 mi) in, is the only village on the way up and the natural place to refill before the long, quiet second half. Floresta at the top has places to eat, with Nebrodi specialties on the menu.
Gear: A compact crankset with a 28-tooth cog covers the steep opening kilometers comfortably. The bigger factor is the climate: Floresta sits more than 1000 m (3281 ft) above Sinagra and is noticeably cooler than the coast - Sicilians head up here to escape the summer heat. Carry a wind layer and arm warmers for the long descent.

Ucria, passed at the 8 km mark, is worth a stop on the way up. The village dates back to antiquity, with two Saracen towers from the period of Islamic rule, a Mother Church of St. Peter built in 1625, and a botanical garden named after the 18th-century botanist Bernardino da Ucria. It also has a surprising number of small museums for its size, including one devoted to papier-mâché.
In Floresta, look for the Fontana di Paolo Salvatore, the Church of Sant'Antonio da Padova and the panoramic viewpoint over the Nebrodi Park. If you can time your trip for October, the town's Ottobrando festival fills each Sunday with a food fair - in 2024 the program ran black Nebrodi pork, then mushrooms, then provola. Half an hour away by car, Montalbano Elicona, named the most beautiful village in Italy in 2015, and the nearby Argimusco megaliths make an excellent rest-day outing.
