INTRO

The Col de Portet d'Aspet has been in the Tour de France 58 times, first in 1910 and most recently in Stage 16 of the 2021 Tour. It is the 6th most crossed Col in Tour de France history.

You can actually start this climb further down the road in Aspet as it winds through some villages and farms for about 10k. The segment listed is the real meat of the climb at the tail end. It is just unforgiving as you slowly crawl your way through the thankfully shaded section. The memorial to Fabio Casartelli is a sobering reminder to be cautious on the way back down.
