Flat for a day, then into the grand Pyrenees!  This stage begins in Rodez, which is a stage town for the fifth time.  The stage finishes in Carcassonne, a stage town for the twelfth time, most recently when Mark Cavendish tied Eddy Merckx for most TdF stage wins ever (34) 10 July, 2021 on Stage 13.

“The road to Carcassonne is often hilly and the ups and downs that lead to it can favour breakaways. But on this occasion, the route has been designed to suit the sprinters’ teams. That’s provided that they work hard to control the day’s attackers, who still might manage to produce a surprise” (Tour de France Stage 15).
