Cycling Col des Saisies

Ride 14.8 kilometers gaining 795 meters at 5% average grade.

The Col des Saisies is a popular cycling route located in the French Alps, specifically in the Savoie region of France. It is often included as part of the Tour de France and offers stunning scenery and challenging terrain for cyclists.

This is a well known Cat 1 climb that has been featured in the Tour de France 14 times since 1979 as of 2023.

You will begin the climb in Flumet, a charming village located in the Savoie department of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in southeastern France. Situated in the heart of the French Alps, Flumet is part of the Espace Diamant ski area and offers beautiful mountain landscapes and outdoor recreational opportunities.

Having been featured so many times in the TdF, there are markers at each kilometer of the climb.

The route is a rolling 14 kilometers with 3 short descents, the longest 1.2 kilometers at a 3.35% downhill grade beginning at kilometer 9.  There is a 9.5% 500 meter and 8% kilometer segment. Two-thirds of the climb averages between 5-10%.

The springtime is a wonderful time to ride and enjoy wildflowers as you pass meadows with grazing cattle.

We pass through the small village of Le Planay at kilometer 6.5.

The Col des Saisies sits at an elevation of approximately 1,650 meters (5,413 feet) and connects the Beaufortain valley with the Val d'Arly. It is known for its picturesque landscapes, with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.

We finish the climb at Les Saisies ski resort.

Finish at 1,650 meters.
