Tour de France 2021: Stage 16 (category 2) - Mattia Cattaneo (ITA) first to the top in 2021 Tour de France.

This is a quiet part of a lovely region in France. While the scenery is not always as stunning as the higher cols in the Pyrenees, there are still good views and many quaint villages to distract you from your efforts. The river valleys provide some relief from the summer heat.
Either side of the Col de Port is not overly challenging compared to some of the other climbs in the area. The Massat side features the turn off for the Mur de Peguere. From Massat, you can also tackle the Port de Lers or the Col d’Agnes. It is possible to do a loop ride with the Col de Port and the Port de Lers.

Roadway: The roadway is in good shape on both sides of the col.

Traffic: There is moderate traffic.

Parking: You can park in Tarascon-sur-Ariege or Massat, depending on where you are coming from and which side of the col you want to tackle first.

Summer in the Pyrenees is normally warm and sunny, even at higher elevations. However, there are some periods of low clouds that can make the climbs quite damp. Bring warm clothes just in case. As this col is at a lower altitude, it normally does not get too cold at the top. Water is available in both Tarascon and Massat, and near the top of the col.

There are places to stay in Tarascon, Massat, and some of the smaller villages in the area. Tarascon and Massat also have restaurants and shops for food.

This is one of the "easier" major climbs in the Pyrenees. It has a few steeper sections, especially closer to the top. There is parking and services in Tarascon-sur-Ariege.
