Col du Pré from Beaufort – Alpine Classic and Tour de France Battleground

Col du Pré from Beaufort is a formidable Hors-Catégorie climb in the French Alps, renowned for its steep, sustained gradients and breathtaking alpine scenery. After never featuring in the Tour de France before, it made a dramatic debut in 2019 and returned just two years later in 2021, quickly establishing itself as a modern classic. In the 2021 Tour, Nairo Quintana was first to summit, underlining the climb’s significance in shaping the race.

In 2025, Col du Pré returns to the Tour de France, further cementing its reputation as a decisive and challenging ascent for the world’s best climbers

CLIMB SUMMARY

Cycling Col du Pré

Ride 13.1 kilometers gaining 989 meters at 7.6% average grade.

Col du Pré is becoming a Tour favorite?  Well, after never being featured from 1903 to 2018, its burst on the scene with appearances in 2018 and 2021 👍🚵👍.

For 2021, Col du Pré is one of, albeit the least known, only 5 HC climbs of 59 categorized climbs in the TdF - taking its place alongside some of the most famous, toughest and spectacular climbs in the world:  Mont Ventoux, Col du Tourmalet, Luz Ardiden and Col de Portet. . . and rightly so!

The climb is 13 kilometers and begins in Beaufort
