INTRO
This surprisingly punchy climb will take you to the highest point above the Rose Bowl, a great climb to do before or after the Rose Bowl Group Ride. This is a famous and popular group ride that goes around the stadium, often frequented by top regional cyclists such as professionals from the LA-based UCI Continental Pro TEAM L39ION. The ride is open to everyone and has taken place every Tuesday and Thursday night at 6pm for the past 60 years.
Team Legion was created by brothers Justin Williams (ex Trek-Livestrong rider) and Cory Williams with the goal of increasing diversity and inclusion in cycling, and have quickly become one of the America's best cycling teams.
The climb starts out with a 0.25-mile false flat then quickly turns into a fairly consistent 6-7% until you reach what we like to call the "Col de la Rose Bowl" (the closest thing LA has to a real Col!). From here you'll take a right turn (although the short street to the left is steeper), climb up rolling gradients and make another right on to St. Augustine Drive. There's less than a mile left, but don't expect it to get below 12%, besides a few meters of flat to rest before the final push.
Road & Traffic:
Traffic is light on Lida Street, and very light after turning right at the intersection. The road surface is average, sections are choppy on the descent.

Park at the Rose Bowl, free parking in any of these lots

- Wild Oak Cafe (the best place around for a cyclist to refuel, by far!)

Pasadena is a great place to visit all year round, and the San Gabriel Mountains are debatably the best riding in Southern California. The annual Parade of Roses takes place every Jan 1st before the Rose Bowl football game. The second biggest annual parade in the country, all floats must be made entirely from flowers and live plants.
We really like the Wild Oak Cafe, right in the neighborhood of this climb.
