This is a hill made famous (well, at least to the ultra-triathlon community) by the Norseman Triathlon. Our segment plus another 5.4 kilometers on trail is the final run segment and finish of the Norseman - one of the hardest triathlons in the world. The name comes from the fact the hill turns extraordinary and extreme athletes into Zombies.
Average grade is 7.4%. 60% of the climb is at 5-10% grade and 16% is at 10-15%. The steepest 500 meters is 10.4% average grade.

Roadway: Narrow two lane roadway in very good condition with no center striping or shoulder.
Traffic: Mild to moderate depending on the season - this is a popular location for hiking.
Parking: You may wish to park at the start of the hike to the Gaustatoppen (km 12 of our bike climb; Map; Street View), or park on the side of the road near the start of the climb (Map; Street View).
Provisions; There is Stavsro Kafe at kilometer 12.

Hike the Gaustatoppen, which begins at the 12 kilometer mark of our bike ride - 5.2 km one way gaining 671 meters' at 21% average grade. From AllTrails: "Gaustatoppen is a 6.4 mile out and back trail located near Tuddal, Vestfold og Telemark, Norway that offers scenic views and is rated as difficult. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, and nature trips." (Google Map + Reviews).
