This climb averages 5.5% over 24.1 km (15 mi).  The grade is uneven rather than steady - an easier opening out of Badalucco gives way to steeper pitches through Ciabaudo and Vignai, and the toughest sections, some over 12%, come in the final kilometers above the junction with the Baiardo road.
Roadway:  Paved the entire way, a narrow provincial road (SP54) with numerous hairpins and one short tunnel above Vignai. Recent rider reports describe the surface as good to excellent through Ciabaudo and Vignai. Note that the pavement ends a little below Monte Ceppo's true 1,627 m summit; the final stretch to the actual peak is an unpaved trail not included in this route. Traffic:  Very light. This is a quiet valley and forest road used mainly by locals and the occasional hiker or fellow cyclist. Parking:  There is no dedicated lot; riders typically park informally along the roadside in or near Badalucco, close to where the SP54 leaves the valley floor.
Provisions:  There is nothing along the route - no water, food, or services between Badalucco and the finish. Stock up in Badalucco before you start.

Badalucco itself is worth the extra time - a medieval Val Argentina village known as an "open-air museum" for the frescoes and murals painted across its house facades, crossed by a pair of humpback stone bridges including the Romanesque Ponte di Santa Lucia. It's also a center of Taggiasca olive oil production; Olio Roi, one of the region's best-known mills, runs visits and has an oil museum in town.

This corner of the Alpi Liguri also holds several other PJAMM climbs reached from nearby Molini di Triora, just up the valley from Badalucco - Colle Melosa, Passo Teglia, Passo Guardia, and Ponte della Pace among them - so a multi-day base in the Val Argentina can string together several remote Ligurian climbs.
