I foolishly ignored the signs and lifted my bike over the two gates to proceed to the summit (3,081ft). This picked up Strava segment "Mt Te Aroha": 4.39mi, 2,913ft, 12.6%
Beyond the second gate the road is all gravel, loose in places. Steeper pitches required steady pace to maintain traction and momentum. Although not a big climb at 2,913ft, it was grueling. The middle 1.8 miles averages 14.1% with some pitches significantly steeper. Didn't take any photos on the ascent.
Overall: not recommended. Will not do again. Makes Mt St Helena (California) look very easy.
