INTRO
Stage 21 brings the curtain down on the 2026 Vuelta a España with a short, largely ceremonial 99.4km run from Carrefour Granada into the historic city of Granada. After the brutal summit finish at Collado del Alguacil the day before settled the overall standings, this flat closing stage is traditionally a procession for the early kilometers, with the peloton toasting the overall winner, before the pace lifts for a bunch sprint finish on a closing circuit through the streets of Granada beneath the Alhambra.

The route from Carrefour Granada into the city is essentially flat, with only gentle urban undulations on the closing circuit through Granada. The route departs Carrefour Granada in Armilla on the southern outskirts of the city and rolls north on wide, well-maintained roads into central Granada. The finale is contested over a closing circuit through the city streets, offering spectators multiple viewing opportunities as the peloton laps toward the finish line, with the Alhambra and Sierra Nevada providing a dramatic backdrop to the race's grand finale.
No specialized climbing gear is needed for this flat, ceremonial finale. Riders will run standard sprint-stage setups: a stiff, aerodynamic bike, a slightly harder gearing mix suited to high-speed flat racing, and, for those simply out to enjoy the closing circuit route themselves, any comfortable road bike will do. This is a stage for cruising and soaking in the atmosphere rather than technical equipment choices.
Granada is one of Spain's most spectacular cities, crowned by the Alhambra palace and fortress complex overlooking the Albaicín's winding Moorish streets. Fans gathering for the finale can explore the city's tapas bars, the Granada Cathedral, and the nearby Sierra Nevada mountains, which offer some of the finest high-altitude cycling and skiing terrain in southern Europe, before or after watching the Vuelta a España crown its 2026 champion.
