INTRO
The climb begins immediately after the train track overpass. People who want to extend the climb to 998m gained can continue past the Ski Hill Lodge (where Strava Segment ends) to the start of the "Piper Down" MTB trail (or ride their mountain bike up the climb and then down the trail)

Surface:
Road is paved until the start of the switchbacks (approx 5km in), afterwhich it's a gravel road. Road conditions vary quite a bit depending on precipitation, traffic, and road grating. It's normal for some parts of the gravel to be too loose to pedal standing up, and unavoidable washboard sections are sometimes present (depending on when it was last grated), which can make for a bumpy descent!Parking:
Closest parking is at the Elks Park Ball Diamonds/SMBA Bike Park less than 1km away, or just anywhere within Smithers as it's only going to be a few km from the hill climb start.
Traffic:
On sunny days in July/August, there's moderate traffic (for a small town backroad, anyway) from hikers driving up/down, but it's not too bad.
There are provisions in the town of Smithers below. On Thursdays, the Hudson Bay Mountain Resort hosts public events with food, games, and more.
