CLIMB SUMMARY

Cycling Black’s Beach

½ mile at 12.3% average grade.

This is a secluded and beautiful beach beneath the bluffs of Torrey Pines in La Jolla  just down the hill from University of California, San Diego.  The southern section of the beach has one of the most powerful surf breaks in Southern California which makes this beach very popular with the surfers.

The name Black’s Beach originates from the Black family who owned a horse farm on the bluffs above the beach.

Black’s Beach was also the first clothing optional (nude) beach in the US.  The northern part of the beach managed by the California State Park system remains clothing optional while the southern section owned jointly by the state and city of San Diego does not permit nudity . . . 😞
