CLIMB SUMMARY

Cycling Simplonpass

Ride 20.1 kilometers gaining 1,367 meters at 6.6% average grade.

This is another great climb in the Valais Region (Canton) of Switzerland, one of the greatest climbing areas in the world (PJAMM Valais Climb Area). The crux of this climb is the first 12 km which average 7% (steepest kilometer along that segment is 8.5% and steepest 2 kilometers is 8.3%).  The final 3.5 kilometers are much milder at 3.2%.

Summary from Helmuth Dekkers:  From Brig, cyclists can follow the old road which joins the cars again after ~7 km. One crosses the valley via the unique looking concrete Gartnerbrücke and in the last part there are some galerias before the pass is reached.
