INTRO
This climb starts just a mile or so from downtown Boise and only a couple of miles from the Capitol building itself. This ride becomes rural pretty quickly and the grade is steady but never steep. The climb provides wide open views until near the end when you reach the pine trees. Many locations offer nice views of town and the switchbacks of the road below. The top is Bogus Basin ski area – there is a nice plaza there to enjoy refreshments during the summer months. On a summer weekend you’ll see many cyclists as this is the go-to ride for anyone in Boise who likes to climb by bike.

Roadway: Bogus Basin Road is a two lane highway in excellent condition with a shoulder wide enough to ride in most of the way up the mountain.
Traffic: Light on weekdays, moderate to heavy on weekends.
Parking: On W Curling Drive at the start of the climb - Map; Street View.
Provisions: None on the climb but plenty in Boise.
Weather and Gear: Beware the weather - we ride to over 6,000' and it does snow during the late spring and winter. Be sure to consult the PJAMM "Full Forecast" feature for the time you expect to arrive at the finish to assess what clothing to bring on your ride.

A nice, moderate climb on a good road with light traffic. Not steep, just a nice, easy grind up past the ski base - lots of summer activities - cafe, restrooms - through the large parking area and continuing up easy switchbacks to the pioneer lodge building at the top. A fun descent. Started the ride from the Boise Riverside RV park - on the Greenbelt paved bike path - to the start of the climb.

Actually, the race course for the Gran Fondo is 18.1 miles and although the START line is correct, the finish line is up at the upper parking lot near Pioneer Lodge. I believe it's a 4,400 ft climb?
