Doug Jansen: I think up to 11.3k it can be ok on gravel bike. Note trucks and other vehicles drive up this and it can get pretty loose and washboardy in summer. There might be large embedded or loose rocks that get exposed too. Most of it is not a refined gravel road, but it is not a full on jeep road either. It's been a while since I've ridden and fuzzy on upper part of it.
PJAMM Note - there is 1.5 miles past the 11,300' mark at 7.1% and 560' elevation gain.
Erich McAlister - This climb can be done on a gravel bike. You won’t die on the descent, there’s nothing technical, just rough for a very long time. Take the biggest tires you can fit.
Tanner Pike - I did this on a mountain bike. Is it doable on a gravel bike? Yes, but it will be a long day if you’re not a great bike handler, especially on the downhill. I’d categorize the surface as a 4/5 for a gravel bike
Billy P - I’ve seen one person over the past 3 years on a gravel bike. For my ability a mountain bike with front suspension is the minimum for this climb. I’d rate it a 3-4 (1 smooth to 5 rough) for its chunky (ness). Going up is slow but is a more of an exercise in picking the line, and coming back down at speed requires attention and strong wrist and hands.
