"Red Rock Mountain is a steep and severe test in north central Pennsylvania into Ricketts Glen State Park and is a contender for the most difficult climb in the state. It contains one of the steepest half miles in the state through the middle of the ascent. A flat towards the top lowers the average grade. Through woods for the most part it, after the near flat climbing resumes over moderate grade and then flattens out on top to finish. It is a fast descent as well over a road that carries little traffic most of the time." The climb starts at the bottom of the falls, which is fairly remote so make sure you have what you need. There are two stores a few miles away and during the summer season there is a snack bar at the top of the climb just off the lake. If you turn-around and come down be very careful, speeds can get very fast and the road is not smooth (at least it wasn't in great shape in summer of 2025). Another consideration is wildlife; you are in the forest and deer are abundant and can be unpredictable. Other animals to include, squirrels, bear, wood chucks etc. Especially if you are going to make the descent be very careful.
