“The west side of Route 33 takes riders to the Virginia border through thick woods and along a challenging route.  Several big switchbacks contain the steepest grades on the climb and produce some good views.  The grade eases just before the summit.  A few big rigs may pass you on this one but it is a worthwhile ascent.” (This quote is presented with the approval of John Summerson, from his book, The Complete Guide to Climbing (by Bike), 2nd Edition, pg. 101.)
