Passo Mortirolo is one of the most famous bike climbs in the world . . .

GIRO HISTORY
There are several signs of past Giro d'Italia's along the climb.
The approach to the pass has been from Mazzo di Valtellina in 10 of 14 Giro appearances (through 2022).
The 1990, 2017 and 2022 Giro used the Edolo approach to climb Mortirolo.
We are on a busy highway for the first 4.5 km until turning onto a much lesser traveled and well maintained road for the majority of the climb. This is the “back way” to the passo - it is far to the south and isolated from the other three routes which all overlap themselves at some point. The Edolo path to Passo Mortirolo is the only approach that does not share the road with one of the other four routes to the top.
Climb begins in Edolo (pop. 4532, 2017).
Climb is on busy SS 42 until we turn left onto SP81 at km 4.5.
Beautiful views as we climb.
There are several nice hairpins on this climb.
No shortage of pass signs at the top.
