CLIMB SUMMARY

Cycling Wrynose Pass from Cockley Beck.

Ride 2 miles gaining 587’ at 5.5% average grade (7% climb only)

Do not be fooled by the 5.5% average grade - this climb has teeth and is a monster at the finish with the last 2/10’s of a mile averaging 18% and the last ~50 yards 25%.

Of the ‘Fab Four’ climbs in the vicinity (Hardknott East + West and Wrynose East + West) The Cockley Beck side of Wrynose is the easiest, but not to be underestimated. The steep upper slopes of the climb are steep and can hurt after riding Hardknott Pass. The beginning section of the climbs follows the path of a winding river as you make your way to the mountain proper. Then, there’s only one direction to go… You’ll be hard pressed to find a better way to end a tough ride than cresting Wrynose Pass and descending into town for a well earned meat pie or two.

Climb begins at the base of Hardknott and Wrynose Passes.

Follow River Duddon towards its headwaters.

No shortage of water on this route.

Finish.

That’s a wrap!!
