This climb is also the first 5.7 miles of the Rock Creek Road climb. The magnificent face of the steep Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains are to our left as we ascend from Owens Valley to Old Sherwin Summit (the “new” summit is on Hwy 395 - forget that!). Sherwin Grade was originally constructed in the 1870’s by James L.C. Sherwin for logging purposes. Windy Scotty’s Blog.
