INTRO

One of the most iconic bike climbs in Spain.  Located in the Sierra de Los Filabres mountain range, this climb is best known and appreciated for its 23 hairpins in an eleven kilometer 7.7% segment beginning just below the town of Velefique.  For the entire climb after the town of Velefique we have unobstructed views of the treeless desert-like mountains surrounding us. However, what sets this climb apart is that not only are there many great hairpins, because there are no trees along the route, you have fantastic views of the roadway snaking up the hill below you as you tick off one hairpin after another. This special mountain climb has been featured in the Vuelta a España six times since 2004, most recently in 2017 (as of 2020).
Average grade is 7.4%.  You'll ride 12.8 kilometers gaining 942 meters with 0 descent, 15% of the climb is at 0-5% grade, 68% is at 5-10%, and 17% is at 10-15%  The steepest 500 meters is 11.3% and steepest kilometer 10.8%.
