INTRO

Climb through the Superstition Mountains - the most rugged landscape in Arizona. Some views will make you think you're riding through Mordor!

This is a popular local climb and you are likely to come across other cyclists, even during a weekday.

Parking:
Our recommendation is combining this climb and the Tortilla Flat climb into one ride, starting at Prospectors Park in Apache Junction. It is free to park at the park's baseball fields (no Tonto NF pass required), and riding from here you get the full experience riding into the Superstition Mountains (as well as an additional climb!) Click Here for the park's address.

If you'd rather park at Canyon Lake, there is ample parking on the lakeside (a popular boating site) at the Acacia Lot. A Tonto National Forest pass IS required to park in this lot (the Rangers will ticket, due to this lake's popularity). Click here for more information on purchasing a pass.

Traffic:
We recommend doing this climb during a weekday, as there are many large trucks pulling boats heading to and from the lake.
The Tortilla Flat Saloon is a great place to stop for snacks, cold brews, and refill water bottles. This cyclist-friendly classic motorcycle bar can get crowded on winter months, and is a fun place to hang out with live music on weekends.
There is also the Well Done Grill at the Canyon Lake Marina.

It's a climb. I needed somewhere to do tempo efforts, it did the trick. The decent is pretty easy on either side, the climb was easy to big ring.

Short and beautiful climb. The roads are great and if you go early enough, there is very little traffic, although it picks up later in the day. Definitely recommend.
