Climb summary by PJAMM ambassador Bruce Hamilton.
The Snow Canyon climb begins in Ivins Utah (a few miles west of St. George) and it starts at the roundabout where Snow Canyon Road turns north. This is a very pretty climb through orange rocks typical of southern Utah. It’s a bit more interesting than your average ride through the orange rock formations as there was an active volcano here 27,000 years ago and some of this course goes through fields of lava. It runs through a state park and there are several places with overlooks and billboards telling you about the geology, history, or wildlife. The road is in great shape with a wide shoulder and smooth pavement, and the scenery is excellent all the way up. It’s steeper at the end although not a difficult climb by PJAMM standards. And it was a screaming fun descent to come back from the top down to the roundabout.
