Sicily has hundreds of bike climbs, but one dominates them all: Mount Etna. While the hardest route starts at the ocean, there are at least 8 routes up the volcano, with at least one climbed by the Giro d'Italia each time they go to Sicily. Rising 3357m above the Mediterranean, Mount Etna is the tallest active volcano in Europe. It is also one of the most active volcanoes in the world, with minor eruptions multiple times a year. See our page on how volcanoes have shaped the world of bike climbing.
